Uses of Vinegar

White vinegar should be something that you always keep in the house! You can use it straight up, or diluted for a multitude of things! Here are a few ways white vinegar can be used around the home and office!

Erase Ballpoint-pen Marks. Dab full-strength white vinegar on the mark using a cloth or sponge.

De-stick Scissors. When scissor blades become sticky or grimy, don’t use water to wash them because they are far more likely to rust! Wipe the blades down with full strength vinegar with a cloth or towel, and then dry them off.

Clean Window Blinds. Mix equal parts of white vinegar and hot tap water, and use a cotton cloth to get in between each blind. You’ll be amazed!

Get Rid of Water Rings on Furniture. Forgot the coaster? No problem! Mix equal parts of vinegar and olive oil and apply it with a soft cloth, moving with the wood grain.

Remove Carpet Stains. For small, light stains, mix 2 tablespoons of salt with ½ cup of white vinegar, let it soak in, dry and then vacuum. For larger stains, add 2 tablespoons of borax to the mixture and use in the same way.

Remove Candle Wax. Candles are great to relax or set the mood, but they can become messy. If you have melted wax on furniture, first, soften the wax with a blow dryer and wipe away as much as you can. Then remove what’s left by rubbing the area with a cloth soaked in equal parts of vinegar and water.

Unclog Drains. Vinegar and baking soda is one of the most powerful and effective ways to unclog drains. Use a funnel to pour ½ cup of baking soda, followed by 1 cup of vinegar. Once the foaming subsides, flush with hot tap water. Wait 5 minutes before flushing with cold tap water.

Get Rid of Burning Smells. If you just burned dinner, or a chain-smoking guest paid you a visit, you can get rid of smoky odors by placing a shallow bowl ¾ full of vinegar where the scent is the strongest, or you can place a few bowls throughout the house!

Steam-clean the Microwave. Using a glass bowl, fill it with ¼ cup of vinegar and 1 cup of water. Cook the mixture on the highest setting for five minutes, and then wipe away all the grime!

Disinfect Cutting Boards. Clean your wood cutting boards with full strength white vinegar after each use. The acid in the vinegar is a great disinfectant against E.coli, salmonella, and staph!

Clean your Coffeemaker. If you find your coffee becoming weak or bitter, your coffeemaker probably needs to be cleaned! Fill the decanter with 2 cups of white vinegar and 1 cup of water, and brew it through the cycle! Once you let the vinegar go through the cycle, make sure to run it twice more with just regular water before using it again.

Make Nail Polish Last Longer. Wipe your nails down with a cotton ball soaked in white vinegar. The clean surface will make your manicure last longer!

Loosen a Rusted Screw. Pour vinegar onto the screw, and it will easily come free!
