Benefits of Apples

We’ve all heard the saying: "An apple a day keeps the doctor away". The apple is supposedly a miracle fruit that we’ve all known it to be the cure all for being preventative.  But is the apple truly that wonderful? What are the benefits of eating an apple? 

Apples are actually extremely beneficial. They are rich in antioxidants, flavanoids, and fiber.  Here are health benefits of apples: 

Improving neurological health

Studies have been researching whether or not if apples can help our brain.  An antioxidant in apples, quercetin, has been found to help reduce cellular health that is caused by oxidation and inflammation of neurons.  Not only that, but it is suggested apples may be beneficial for our memory, potentially curving Alzhiemer’s Disease and prevent dementia. 


Lowering bad cholesterol levels

Daily intake of apples have the potential to lower our cholesterol.  Women who ate apples every day had 23% less LDL and 4% more HDL after six months.  


Reduces the risk of diabetes

Apples in several studies have show that it can reduce your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.  Apples curb our appetite, and sweet enough to curb cravings.  A study that caused people to eat three servings per week of apples and other fruits showed a 7% lower risk of developing diabetes.


Warding off breast cancer

An apple a day, prevents breast cancer. New mantra.  New studies are starting to appear showing the increased consumption of fruits and vegetables, especially those with phenolics decrease our risk of breast cancer.


Reducing risk of obesity

We all know a healthy diet is important in having a healthy lifestyle.  Apples promote our good gut bacteria, especially those of the Granny Smith type.  Eating Granny Smith apples prevent obesity and disorders that come along with it.
