15 Tips to Relax

There are a million things running around our heads all times of the day.  Sometimes it’s hard to let go of those bugging thoughts and enjoy some “me time”. There are a bunch of things we can do to help us relieve some stress.  

1) Meditate

Taking some time to be alone with ourselves is just what we need.  Sit in a quiet place, concentrate on your breath, and let your worries wipe away.

2) Chew Gum

Whatever your flavor choice, gum can be an easy way to relieve some stress.  A few minutes can reduce anxiety and lower your cortisol levels. 

3) Breathing Exercises 

Slow, deep breaths can clear your mind, lower blood pressure, and lower your heart rate.  

4) Progressive Relaxation

Squeezing your muscles can actually relieve your anxieties. One body part at a time, you will tense your muscles, and let your body achieve calmness.  Progressive relaxation is a wonderful technique for falling asleep. 

5) Count Backwards

Counting backwards slowly will allow your mind to calm down.

6) Creative Visualization

Let your imagination run wild.  Allowing yourself to day dream about something that makes you feel happy can boost your mood and relieve tension. 

7) Acupressure 

Using your thumb and forefinger to massage the soft area between your thumb and forefinger on the other hand can help relieve tension. 

8) Foot Rub

Rubbing your feet back and forth on a ball can relieve stress and tension.

9) Look Out the Window

Looking out on the nature scenes and allowing it rush over you can be very relaxing.

10) Do Some Yoga 

Yoga is a great way to clear your mind and focus on yourself. Even if you’re just doing basic poses, it can help.

11) Stretch

Stretching for just five minutes can relieve tension and help you relax.

12) Write it Down

Giving us creative time to just write what’s on our mind can relieve so much stress. Writing down our emotions and being able to express ourselves makes everything seem a little less scary.

13) Dance

To music, or not, dancing allows you to express yourself and relieve some anxiety.

14) Cuddle With a Pet

There’s a reason there are therapy dogs.  Pets can create instantaneous smiles, boost our self esteem and make us feel wanted.

15) Laugh

Laughter is the best medicine. Being able to laugh at ourselves, at situations, and in general can help us relieve stress. Laughter can boost our immune system and increase blood flow.
