The Atkins diet is for weight loss, and can be extreme. With an increased protein intake, you will feel fuller, with less calories. The fullness on this diet is one of the big attractions, making it easy to stay on. 

But It’s Not Good For You.

Low carbohydrate intake causes ketosis. Ketosis is a normal metabolic process that is necessary. It forces your body to take energy from fat instead of carbohydrates. Unfortunately, ketones are built up and can effect the balance of your blood. Ketoacidosis is what happens when you push ketosis too far. With the ketones building up in your blood, your blood becomes acidic. Ketoacidosis can lead to death. This diet in long term can cause long term negative effects. 

Why Is Atkins Diet Successful If It Could Be So Bad For You? 

It’s a diet, like any other, it restricts your calorie intake. Atkins makes it extremely hard to eat the recommended daily intake of grains. This makes us miss all the healthy benefits of whole grains, like digestive system health and maintaining our blood sugar levels. 

If you are going to partake in the Atkins diet, consult your doctor. Cutting carbohydrates from your daily diet is not necessary to lose weight.
